Celebrating Purpose, Passion, and Talent: International Coding Showcase 2024/25 Award Ceremony at the Singapore Zoo

The International Coding Showcase (ICS) 2024/25 was a celebration like no other. Not only did it mark the 5th anniversary of this global competition – it was also the first time the awards ceremony was held live and in person, and there was no better place than the Singapore Zoo to honour our young coders and their conservation-themed projects!
🐍 This Year’s Theme: Animal Care and Conservation
As proud adopters of Bubbles the Python, our Coding Lab team chose Animal Care and Conservation as the theme for ICS 24/25. Students were challenged to design creative, meaningful projects that raise awareness about wildlife protection, the environment, and animal welfare—with a special nod to the animals of the Singapore Zoo.
From tackling forest fires to fun educational game apps inspired by the enrichment activities at the Singapore Zoo, participants turned their ideas into powerful digital solutions, coding with heart and purpose.
🎉 A Milestone Moment: Our First In-Person Ceremony
Held at the Animal Buddies Theatre, the awards ceremony was an unforgettable experience for our students from Singapore and Japan. For the first time, Platinum to Silver winners took the stage and presented their projects live—just steps away from the animals that inspired their work.
These students, aged 7 to 18, wowed the audience with their ingenuity and conviction. Seeing them explain their ideas in person—while standing in the very zoo they hoped to impact—was a powerful full-circle moment that brought their coding journeys to life.

The ceremony spotlighted three standout projects:
Joseph Yeo (Senior Category) – Save the Animals!
A Python game about stopping forest fires and rescuing wildlife from destruction caused by climate change.Anish Srivastava (Master Category) – AnimalIntel
A web app designed to enhance zoo visits through animal tracking, shared sightings, and rewards to promote learning and engagement.Poh Aqil Abidin – App Meng
Awarded the prestigious Wildlife Conservation Award, this game was inspired by orangutan enrichment efforts and the legacy of Ah Meng, aiming to educate and empower players to support orangutan conservation.
🏆 Honouring Heart and Impact: Wildlife Conservation Award
The Wildlife Conservation Award was a special honour presented by Dr. Xie Shangzhe, Vice President of Veterinary Healthcare at Mandai Wildlife Group. This award celebrates the project that best promotes animal care, and App Meng was a clear favourite—deeply aligned with the zoo’s values and mission.
🦁 Beyond the Ceremony
After the ceremony, participants and their families enjoyed a fun day at the zoo. For many, it was a chance to meet the animals they researched, discover more about conservation efforts, and celebrate their achievements surrounded by nature.
It was a day of inspiration and impact—and a strong reminder that code can be more than just lines on a screen. It can be a tool for good, a platform for advocacy, and a path to real-world change.

Founded in 2020 by Coding Lab, the International Coding Showcase is an annual global coding competition for students aged 7–18. With entries across the Junior (Scratch), Senior (Scratch, App Inventor, Python) and Master (Python, Web) categories, the ICS aims to nurture innovation, creativity, and purpose-driven coding.
Each year, the ICS brings together bright minds from across the world, fostering a community of young coders eager to make a difference.
