Coding Lab Featured at Scratch Conference 2025 – A Global Recognition of Our YCS Curriculum!
We are proud to share that Coding Lab was officially selected by the Scratch Foundation based in the USA to showcase our work at the Scratch Conference 2025. It’s an incredible honour and a powerful testament to our belief that Scratch is more than a beginner’s tool. It’s a foundation for deep, interdisciplinary, and meaningful computing education. In our blog, we will expand on why this matters and what it means for our students!
Why This Matters
Each year, the Scratch Conference gathers educators, researchers, and creative computing advocates from around the world to exchange ideas and share what is possible with Scratch. This year, we are excited to be part of that conversation, showcasing what is possible with Scratch in Singapore and beyond.
At Coding Lab, Scratch is where our students first take flight. Parents often come to us after those first steps with a familiar question: “My child has learnt Scratch. What comes next?”
This moment is where possibilities start to open. From building games and apps to exploring artificial intelligence, students begin discovering how far their curiosity can take them.
“In YCS classes, what students love most is the freedom to try their own ideas and and parents notice how it makes them more independent and motivated. YCS prepares students for competitions, encouraging them to tackle big concepts creatively. It is inspiring to see young minds approach challenges with curiosity and perseverance!”
From outer space to the screen — students bring their wildest ideas to life, one purr-fect Space Cat adventure at a time!
Recreate popular games like Flappy Bird while diving into physics, game design, and computational thinking!
From spelling bees to STEM dreams — our #girlsinSTEM make magic happen with code and creativity!
Reimagining Scratch: From Beginner Tool to Thinking Platform
Our Young Computer Scientists (YCS) curriculum was front and centre at the Scratch Conference. Designed as a multi-year roadmap for learners aged 7 to 9, consisting of over 180 hours of meticulously designed curriculum, it uses Scratch as a creative foundation to explore:
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
Design & Digital Art
Mathematical Thinking
Science Simulations
Real-World Problem Solving
Scratch becomes more than a block-based tool It transforms into a canvas where students learn to think critically, creatively, and computationally across disciplines.
Showcasing Real Student Work with Real Impact
At our booth, visitors got to explore amazing student projects made by the vibrant Coding Lab student community, many of them created by primary and secondary students in Singapore. These included:
Games aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Interactive science experiments built in Scratch
Environmental awareness campaigns and educational tools
AI prototypes and storytelling projects with empathy at their core
These works reflect what’s possible when Scratch is used not just to teach what code is, but why it matters.
“Our Young Computer Scientists program blends creative learning with real-world applications, empowering students to not only imagine and play but also to build practical solutions that connect coding with everyday life.”
Sharing What We’ve Learned: Free Resources for Educators
We didn’t just showcase, we shared. Educators visiting our booth walked away with:
Classroom-ready project ideas and lesson plans
Curriculum samples designed for long-term progression
Strategies to use Scratch for interdisciplinary, purpose-driven learning
Introducing Coding Bytes – a free, high-quality video series designed by educators, for educators, to bring real coding skills into classrooms around the world! With engaging content for ages 7–18 and levels from beginner to advanced, it's the plug-and-play solution as educators to make coding fun, structured, and meaningful. You can check out our Coding Bytes resources page as well as our YouTube playlist!
All resources were created by our passionate educators, who have years of experience mentoring thousands of young coders across Asia.
If you missed us at the booth, you can still explore our curriculum here!
A Moment of Recognition, A Vision for the Future
To be featured at Scratch Conference 2025 is not just a celebration. It’s validation of our mission to Nurture Future Leaders in Technology.
We believe Scratch is more than an introduction. In the right hands, and with the right guidance, it becomes a launchpad for:
Deeper computational thinking
Cross-subject creativity and interdisciplinary learning
Student-led innovation
We’re grateful to the Scratch Foundation for this opportunity, and to the global community of educators who continue to inspire and challenge us.
Here’s to shaping the future of education, one Scratch block at a time!
