#CodingLabStudents: Aiden Breva, 12, HCIC 2024 Silver Winner, NJCO Bronze Winner
Aiden’s coding journey began at a young age and has led him to remarkable achievements, including winning a Silver award at the Hwa Chong Infocomm Challenge (HCIC) 2024, as well as a Bronze award at the National Junior Cybersecurity Olympiad (NJCO), ranking high despite competing against many other older participants in secondary school level and above!

Today, we are introducing Prabir, an aspiring 13-year-old coder who clinched the Top Platinum Award for the Hwa Chong Info-Communications Challenge (HCIC) 2023, which is only awarded to the top 1.5% of the participants!

#CodingLabStudents: Winston Ang, 13, St. Andrew’s Secondary School
Today, we are introducing Winston, an aspiring 13-year-old coder who kickstarted his coding journey with us and got into St. Andrew’s Secondary School via DSA with coding, right here at Coding Lab!
Winston started coding at the tender age of 7. The passage of time stands as a testament to his unwavering determination and perseverance throughout the years. It is with great pride that we celebrate his remarkable achievements, as his consistent effort culminated in a well-deserved Distinction and Judges’ Choice (Most Creative) Award in the International Coding Showcase (ICS) 2022!

#CodingLabStudents: Lucas Tan, 13, St. Joseph’s Institution
At Coding Lab, we are passionate about empowering our students to reach new heights and commemorating the remarkable achievements of our students. Introducing our #CodingLabStudent of the month, Lucas Tan, 13, who is currently attending St. Joseph’s Institution after successfully gaining an offer through DSA via coding!
Lucas also has gained various coding achievements, such as the Silver Award in the Hwa Chong Infocomm Challenge (HCIC) 2023 and the Judge’s Choice Award in the International Coding Showcase (ICS) 2022.

#CodingLabStudents: Jacob Xu, 13, NUS High School, HCIC 2023 Gold Award Winner
Meet Jacob, a diligent 13-year-old coder who won the Gold Award in the Hwa Chong Infocomm Challenge (HCIC 2023), achieved a Distinction and Judges’ Choice (Best Presentation) Award at the International Coding Showcase (ICS) 2022, and is currently attending NUS High School, which he got into via DSA!
Earlier in February 2024, Jacob’s team - Team Coding Lab Urban Coders (Ages 13 to 18) -comprising students from Singapore and Japan beat more than 500 teams (and 10,000 participants) to snag the Best Programming Award in the final competition! Jacob was selected to represent his team and share about their project at the final competition, and even had the chance to tour the Microsoft Japan HQ in Shinagawa, Tokyo. 🤩

Shinji Nakamura, 10 | Senior Category | ICS 2023
Shinji Nakamura, 10, presents his App Inventor coding project ‘The Math Game’ for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 2023.
"The Math Game is in line with UN’s SDG4 (Quality Education). Your addition and multiplication skills will improve when you play this intensely fun and exciting game. Collect numbers by catching them with your game character. Add or multiply the numbers caught to clear the level. It gets more challenging as you proceed to a higher level. Avoid touching the durian. Jaelyn Chng, 10 | Senior Category | ICS 2023
Jaelyn Chng, 10, presents her App Inventor coding project ‘Cinnamoroll Conserves Water’ for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 2023.
"A captivating, educational game fostering water conservation awareness. Players control Cinnamoroll using the Accelerometer to save every droplet of water. Aqil Zainal Abidin, 10 | Senior Category | ICS 2023
Aqil Zainal Abidin, 10, presents his App Inventor coding project ‘Trash Zapper’ for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 2023.
"The app is to create awareness about coral conservation. It consist of some information on the coral reef crisis and a simple game where you try to zap the trash bags to prevent it from polluting the sea." - Aqil Zainal Abidin

Owen Siah, 11 | Senior Category | ICS 2023
Owen Siah, 11, presents his App Inventor coding project ‘My Ai Buddy Teacher’ for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 2023.
"An application integrating ChatGPT and Yandex Translate, which enables students to ask ChatGPT questions and receive responses in their native language. The application simulates a teacher for poor children living in rural areas, who may not have a good command of English and enable them to seek answers for themselves. This supports the UN goal of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all." - Owen Siah

Aarush Senthil Kumar, 10 | Senior Category | ICS 2023
Aarush Senthil Kumar, 10, presents his App Inventor coding project ‘Life on Land’ for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 2023.
"This project is to create awareness in favour of United Nations SDG 15 Life of Land. This APP gives information about different biomes, threat to them and ways to protect them as an adult and kid. There is also Quiz section to test the users understanding. There is a feedback section for the users to provide their feedback and I will use it to improve the APP." - Aarush Senthil Kumar

Alicia Khong Kai En, 11 | Senior Category | ICS 2023
Alicia Khong Kai En, 11, presents her Python coding project ‘Fish Life’ for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 2023.
"This project is about being in the fish's shoes and understanding that how the polluted ocean enviroment will affect the fishes. The purpose of my project is to inform others that the ocean is already very polluted and we should show care and concern for our ocean, so that we can make the change towards a clean water ecosystem. This project is also made to encourage people not to catch too many fishes and not to waste food on our fish consumption." - Alicia Khong Kai En

Joshua Zhang Huai Zhi, 12 | Senior Category | ICS 2023
Joshua Zhang Huai Zhi, 12, presents his Python coding project ‘VitalSync’ for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 2023.
"My project is an all in one health app that consists of 5 different core functionalities (hydration, bmi, exercise, breathing, and sleep) to help users keep track of the different aspects of their health. "I have chosen the topic SDG3 - health and well-being, and have created this platform game to educate people on the hazards of smoking as well as second-hand smoke. I also wish to encourage everyone not to submit to harmful peer pressure when it comes to smoking." - Teo Han Xiang Jairus

Ayan Rajeev Prasad, 11 | Senior Category | ICS 2023
Ayan Rajeev Prasad, 11, presents his Python coding project ‘Ayan's Online Learning Assistant’ for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 2023.
"My submission addresses SDG 4-Quality education. The best way of giving Quality education to students everywhere is through E Learning. However, there are downsides that ultimately all boil down to 2 major things- added Stress, and reduced Focus. The objective of my code is an online assistant that helps students counter Stress and Focus. There are 3 logical parts to this code: Detecting the user’s current state of mind and offering stress management tips and focus management tips. Thank you!" - Ayan Rajeev Prasad

Yii Kia Shian, 11 | Senior Category | ICS 2023
Yii Kia Shian, 11, presents his Scratch coding project ‘The Sustainable Fishing Game’ for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 2023.
"This game I created aims to educate the player about the importance of sustainable fishing, by not fishing endangered animals, participating in illegal fishing or overfishing. It is only through sustainable fishing that the player can accumulate enough money to win the game." - Yii Kia Shian

Minecraft Cup 2023 (Ages 10-12) - Excellence Award (2nd Place) and the Tokyo Bay eSG Award
For 2023, our students from Coding Lab Singapore and Japan worked together to create The Future Earth, a sustainable society promoting self-sufficiency. Their project won them the Excellence Award (2nd Place) as well as the Special Award: Tokyo Bay eSG Award, which means the team will be presenting their project at Sushi Tech Tokyo 2024!

#CodingLabStudents: Lucas Tang, 12, and Louis Tang, 10, Henry Park Primary School
We invited 2 passionate brothers, Lucas and Louis Tang, who first began their coding journey with us 4 years ago when they were 9 and 6 years old respectively. They have since accelerated across our S100 Python for teens, and are already pursuing our S200 Electives course at the ages of 12 and 10. Lucas will also be commencing his studies at Hwa Chong Institution in 2023.
